Armed with books (and Steve Mars, our photographer) in tow, we went to the Ferry Building to meet Anthony Bourdain my favorite ex-food-network-now-travel-channel chef. I just love him – the way he writes, the stuff he talks about, the places he goes, the foods he tries. I heart Tony. I can call him that now, since we’re BFF and all.
See how bored Tony looks? That’s because he has yet to meet us.
Okay Steve, you can stop “testing” the camera now. Me and C are ready to get our books signed, and we are strangely (and embarrassingly) nervous.
I have a puppet mouth because I am laughing about something Tony did or said. No, it’s because I told him I was racking my brain trying to think of something clever to say, but now that I was there, I couldn’t think of anything. Maybe he felt sorry for me because he starting drawing a knife in my book…or maybe, subconsciously…he wanted to kill me and make me shut up.
Yeah, that’s right, he has his arm around me. I just want to mention that Anthony Bourdain smells like a combination of earth and cooking food. Like if you walked into a greenhouse at the back of a kitchen.
I asked Tony if he would mind taking a pic with me and the roomies – Renita and Christine. He paused and said, “Sure, come on over.” It was so funny because Christine and Renita were standing there staring at us, waiting for the “ok” – and when he waved them over, they had the biggest grins ever. So this is us – me and Tone – waiting for them to join the party.
This is my favorite picture. I’m totally printing it, framing it, and putting it in my cube. Notice Tony is smiling now. Told you he loves us.
Yeah, this is the picture Tony drew for me. It’s *our* thing – you wouldn’t understand. Heh. I heart Tony. Did I mention that? Anyone who can be that passionate about food is a-ok in my book.
