You know what bothers me? When people shorten my name, or call me a nickname when they barely know me, or have no right to really do so. Bc my name is apparently too long for most people, my family shortened it to a bizarre derivation of my true name. I only expect my family members, and people I consider close as family (either bc they are in some way connected to my brother and sister, or bc I have known them for a long time) to call me this. Not even C, someone I have known for over 10 years calls me this name.
My really close friends from high school use a completely different nickname entirely. I only expect to hear it from that select group of friends.
My foreign friends=another nickname. Only bc w/the 4 syllables in my name, its hard for them to say my name right. So they shortened it to something they can say. I only expect to hear that specific name from that group of people.
And finally, my other friends, they get to use the first letter of my name only after knowing me on some deeper level. I tend to sign my emails etc w/this letter when I have reached a certain level of comfort with people, and that is the go ahead to call refer to me by that nickname/letter whatever.
To everyone else, my full name still applies. It’s what all my boyfriends have used.
