The day before Valentine’s Day, we got engaged. It rained all night and our cabin was leaking from every corner, but we had a blazing hot fire, a bottle of Talisker, grilled tuna and cheese sandwiches, and for the next day or so, a huge secret between just the two of us.
I didn’t sleep at all that night.
Eventually, after we made our way back to civilization (and phone reception), we called up everyone we knew and then celebrated with a big brunch followed by a big dinner. We were married less than 9 months later.
I’m not a big Valentine’s Day person, never have been, never will be, but I can get behind the day before Valentine’s Day. Every year, on February 13, we like to have tuna melts and a glass of whiskey for old times’ sake. Leaking cabin optional.

February 18, 2017 at 10:24 amI don’t think the bottle would last a full year, but that’s usually what we do. Unfortunately, we had to leave our stash of booze in the US when we traveled over to Korea. To be continued…
